Portrait of Lady Arcadie-Constance Spencer of Wovrn

Lady Arcadie-Constance Spencer, thirty-nine years of age, is a lioness of glossy black fur and striking red claws, whose quiet smile carries just a hint of mischief behind it. Born in West Flanders, Belgium, she married into the Spencer household and is now mistress of the estate, and mother to three daughters. Where her husband commands a room through rank, Lady Arcadie-Constance commands it through charm, and rarely needs to raise her voice to be heard.

Highly intelligent and irrepressibly social, Lady Arcadie-Constance has a taste for gossip, stories from distant places, and an abiding passion for music and the arts, above all, the piano. She wants, more than any title could give her, to be revered as the finest pianist in Wovrn, a private ambition she guards as fiercely as any public one. Her greatest fear is not for herself at all, but for her children's safety.

What the registry does not record: years ago, a moment of jealousy led her to make a decision that quietly ended another musician's career. She has never spoken of it, and has regretted it every day since.
