Biography

Lord Douglas Hampton, sixty-two years of age, is a bald eagle of weathered, rugged bearing, a man whose no-nonsense expression suggests he has long since run out of patience for anything that isn't business. American by birth, he cuts a stern, matter-of-fact figure in his grey Victorian suit, quill perpetually in hand, framed against the bank and flag that have made his fortune. He is married to Lady Louise Hampton, and between them the household holds no children, only ledgers, contracts, and the occasional dinner party for Lady Hampton’s charity fund raisers (for which Lord Hampton always seems to be busy those nights…).

Personality

Measured to the point of coldness, Lord Hampton is consumed by import and export, shipping, logistics, and the endless arithmetic of global trade, an eagle-eyed man who notices every misplaced penny. He wants nothing less than control of the world's financial markets, genuinely believing he could manage them better than any man alive, and this same conviction curdles into his greatest weakness: he cannot bear to let anyone else manage his fortune, but alas his memory is not what it once was, and often confuses ‘I owe you $5’ with ‘You owe me $5’, which makes him maddeningly difficult to negotiate with. However, Lord Hampton’s absent-mindedness is specific only to money for some reason, for he is a man so singularly obsessed with counting other people's debts that he's hopeless at tracking his own.

Secret

Lord Hampton still goes to bed with his childhood teddy bear ‘Master Banks’ as he affectionally named him at the age of 5, which was the same time Lord Hampton knew, with the upmost of certainty, his career would be in finance.
